Eye examinations are a vitally important part of looking after your eye health.
Many eye diseases and conditions don’t have symptoms in the early stages and can only be detected with an eye exam. Traditional methods can recognise some diseases, however retinal scanning can detect changes at the back of your eye, which are often the first sign of disease. Early detection means that in most cases, there’s a much better chance of successful treatment.
We’re thrilled to announce that we have invested in an Optomap Daytona scan, which allows us to take an incredibly detailed image of your retina at the back of your eye.
This means that we can look for and identify the most minute changes that could be an early indication of disease.
A More Advanced Eye Scan
The Optomap Daytona is the most advanced equipment for retinal scanning currently available and we’re proud to be the only opticians in Cobham offering this ultra-widefield imaging technology.
The scan allows our optometrist to see up to 82% of your retina in a single image – in other words - a 200° view of the back of your eye, compared to the 45° that can be seen with traditional fundus retinal photography.
The scanning process is very quick, giving immediate results within just a few seconds. It’s also non-invasive, which is especially important now with social distancing still in place and for your overall comfort. All you have to do is position your head in front of the scanner and let it do all the work! Optomap scans are suitable for both adults and kids, so the whole family can benefit from this advanced retinal scanning technology.
What Can The Optomap Detect?
With the Optomap, our optometrist can see even the tiniest changes to your retina. This means that we can detect a large number of eye issues, including signs of retinal detachment, and other sight threatening conditions such as glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy and AMD (age-related macular degeneration). This in turn enables us to act quickly if a hospital referral or urgent treatment is needed to protect and preserve your vision.
As always, we prioritise taking the time to get to know you so that we can offer you the best care. This means that every scan result will be saved in your patient file, so that we can compare the results over time and effectively monitor your eye health.
